Alibaba is home to some of the weirdest and wildest products you can actually get access to online.
Alibaba (BABA) -) not only offers odd items, but seems to celebrate it. Electrek tracks some of the cars for sale there in its "Awesomely Weird Alibaba Electric Vehicles of the Week" column.
For example, a June 18, 2022 column featured a Party boat with a BBQ pit built into it. Thankfully this "vehicle" is not inflatable but made with fiberglass or high-density polyethylene.
The latest featured car is a cute little convertible coupe. It's a bit reminiscent of the 90’s Geo Metro produced by General Motors (GM) -) and Suzuki (SZKMF) -). It was a tiny compact car that seemed like it was barely more than a glorified golf cart with doors.
The Wuling Hongguang MINIEV Convertible is a two door, two-person vehicle that has 40hp. While it sounds like very little horsepower, remember it’s a tiny vehicle and it doesn’t actually require as much power as bigger vehicles.
It has a 26.5kWh battery that can last up to 173 miles before needing to be recharged and it tops out at 62 mph. It takes 8.5 hours to do a slow recharge. The EV is available in black, light blue and teal. The car weighs just over 2000 lbs.
Orders can be made for 1-20 at a price of $15,000 per car and the orders take about 45 days to fill. Shipping is listed as "negotiable" on the Alibaba site.
This itty-bitty EV may not be street legal in the US, yet, but it would be a great little ride to take around town.
