The third Minecraft snapshot for version 1.9.3 is here, and it’s made a couple of additions that should’ve been in the game a long time ago. This brings the third (and hopefully final) round of changes to the creative inventory, as well as adding the game’s most destructive bosses as spawn eggs, including a few tweaks to how spawners work that custom map creators will appreciate.
If you want to know what’s in the previous snapshots, then you can check out our summaries of snapshot 22w42a and snapshot 22w43a.
Creative inventory - Minecraft
Mojang’s attempts to reorganize the creative mode inventory have been largely successful, but there are still a few items that weren’t where they should be and a few extra edge cases that needed to be accounted for. For example, if you’re on a server with blocks that only admins/operators are allowed to access, you’ll now find those in the Redstone Blocks tab. Additionally, things like End Portal frames and Infested blocks now live in the Functional Blocks tab, rather than natural.
New spawn eggs - Minecraft
Spawn eggs are a lot of fun to play around with in creative mode, especially if you’re trying to set up very specific scenarios – or are just too lazy to herd a bunch of sheep into a pen. Either way, four new mobs have had spawn eggs added – ones that have been in the game for a long time:
- Ender Dragon
- Iron Golem
- Snow Golem
- Wither
This means you no longer have to go through the tedium of manually building the golems, or digging through complicated commands to spawn them. That said, the Ender Dragon and Wither eggs can only be obtained through the “/give” command to stop players from accidentally destroying their worlds by spawning a boss.
Monster spawners - Minecraft
Spawners now work slightly differently, as there is now no “default” mob when you place one down (previously a pig). This should let you more easily customize spawners by right-clicking on one while holding a spawn egg item.
Step sounds - Minecraft
Last week a bunch of different step sounds were added for different terrain, and a few more have appeared this week. Carpets, lily pads, and amethyst buds all sound different when walked on now, and you’ll also hear different sounds when walking through plants like nether sprouts and crimson roots.
