Mindy Kaling's Netflix Series Adds Five New Cast Members

Netflix

Mindy Kaling's upcoming Netflix comedy series set in the world of professional basketball has recently expanded its cast with the addition of five new members. The new cast includes Fabrizio Guido, known for his work in 'Good Burger 2,' 'Perry Mason,' and 'Mr. Iglesias,' Toby Sandeman from 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan,' 'The Game,' and 'Love Is_,' Chet Hanks who has appeared in 'Your Honor,' 'Shameless,' and 'Empire,' Keyla Monterroso Mejia from 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Abbott Elementary,' and 'You're Cordially Invited,' and Roberto Sanchez known for his roles in 'Queen of the South,' 'BMF,' and '2 Fast 2 Furious.'

The series, which received a 10-episode order from Netflix in June 2021, features Kate Hudson as the lead character, Isla Gordon. The show's premise revolves around Isla being appointed as the President of the Los Angeles Waves, a prominent professional basketball franchise, following a scandal involving her brother. Isla must navigate the challenges of proving herself in the male-dominated sports industry to her skeptical family and colleagues.

The newly announced cast members will play pivotal roles in the series. Guido will portray Jackie Moreno, a stadium popcorn vendor who unexpectedly finds himself involved with the team. Sandeman takes on the character of Marcus Winfield, a talented player struggling with his leadership responsibilities. Hanks will play Travis Bugg, the Waves' point guard with off-court distractions. Monterroso Mejia's character, Ana Moreno, is described as a smart and ambitious personal injury attorney. Sanchez will portray Stephen Ramirez, the formidable head of the board with traditional views.

The series is co-written and executive produced by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, with Stassen serving as the showrunner. Kate Hudson will also executive produce alongside Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis from the Los Angeles Lakers organization, as well as Howard Klein of 3 Arts. Warner Bros. Television, under Kaling's overall deal, will handle production.
