Min Woo Lee Facts: 20 Things To Know About The Australian Golfer

Min Woo Lee has made an impact on both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour since turning pro in 2019, while he was also handed a captain's pick for the 2024 Presidents Cup International Team, among other achievements. 

Here are 20 facts about the popular Australian.

1. Min Woo Lee was born on 27 July 1998 in Perth, Australia to Soonam and Clara Lee, who emigrated to the country from South Korea earlier that decade.

2. His older sister is LPGA Tour pro and two-time Major winner Minjee Lee. The pair were encouraged to take up the game at a young age by their parents. In an interview with Golf Digest, Min Woo explained their mom was a teaching professional at a local driving range while their dad took up golf when he met Clara.

3. As a youngster, he also enjoyed swimming and basketball.

4. Min Woo and Minjee each won the US Junior Amateur. After Minjee claimed the title in 2012, Min Woo achieved the feat four years later to become the first male golfer to do so. They are the only brother-sister duo to win the event.

5. Min Woo's maiden appearance on a professional tour came in 2012 on the PGA Tour of Australasia's John Hughes Geely Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship, where he missed the cut.

6. He turned professional at the beginning of 2019 and didn't take long to make an impression, finishing fourth in the Saudi International in his second DP World Tour appearance.

7. Lee's first professional win came in the 2020 ISPS Handa Vic Open, where he beat Ryan Fox.

8. In 2021, Lee played with Rick Shiels at the Old Course at St Andrews. What was special about the video is that the duo played the course in reverse and with hickory clubs.

9. Lee also claimed his second professional victory that year and first on the DP World Tour when he beat Matt Fitzpatrick and Thomas Detry in a playoff at the Abrdn Scottish Open.

10. He made his Major debut at that year's Open thanks to the win, but missed the cut at Royal St George's. Lee's best performance in a Major to date came with T5 at the 2023 US Open.

11. On 12 October 2021, Lee earned a place in the Guinness World Records for the 'fastest hole of golf by a team of four,' when he, Sean Crocker, Wilco Nienaber and Nicolai Hojgaard completed the fourth hole at Valderrama in 24.75 seconds.

12. Three days later, he played in the SJM Macao Open on the Asian Tour, and went on to shoot a tournament record of 254 (30-under) to give him a two-shot win.

13. At the end of the 2023 DP World Tour season, Lee was handed a PGA Tour card after finishing inside the top-10 of the Race to Dubai standings.

14. After his 2020 ISPS Handa Vic Open win, he claimed his second professional victory in his homeland at the 2023 Fortinet Australian PGA Championship.

15. Min Woo represented Australia at the 2024 men's Olympics golf tournament at Le Golf National in Paris, where he finished T22.

16. He was given a captain's pick for the 2024 Presidents Cup International Team at Royal Montreal Golf Club.

17. Lee has a large social media following, with over 600,000 on Instagram and over 300,000 on TikTok.

18. Thanks to that presence, it kickstarted a meme based on the phrase "let him cook" after he used it in a social media post. It went viral, and fans responded by chanting the phrase to him at events. After he won the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, he donned a chef's hat in recognition of the phrase!

19. Away from golf, he is an avid gamer.

20. He has been dating his partner, Gracie Drennan, since 2019.
