Milton, a tropical storm, is currently located about 50 miles off the Atlantic coast of Florida, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and storm surge to the region.
The east coast of Florida, stretching from south of Daytona Beach to the Port St. Lucie area, is experiencing heavy rain and the strongest winds of the storm. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are battering parts of the Space Coast and nearby shores.
The majority of the rain associated with Milton is expected to taper off by this morning, although some showers may linger near the east coast into the early afternoon.
Significant storm surge flooding is occurring along the northeastern coast and into parts of coastal Georgia. However, surge levels have begun to recede along the western coast.
Throughout the day, Milton is forecasted to track farther over the Atlantic, but breezy conditions will persist over much of the Florida Peninsula, particularly in eastern coastal areas.
Rough seas and dangerous rip currents are expected to continue through the weekend along a large portion of the southeast Atlantic coast.
