Miltiadis Marinakis sends 'incredible' message as Nottingham Forest set up Liverpool clash

Miltiadis Marinakis hailed the Nottingham Forest players and fans after the team set up an FA Cup showdown with Liverpool.

The son of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was at the City Ground to see Steve Cooper's men come from behind to beat Championship rivals Huddersfield Town 2-1 in their fifth round tie on Monday night.

In doing so, the Reds booked a quarter-final tie at home to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side on Sunday, March 20 (6pm kick-off).

Forest, who had already knocked out Arsenal and holders Leicester City, are into the last eight of the famous competition for the first time in 26 years.

It will be the first time they have faced Liverpool since 1999.

Huddersfield took the lead at Forest through a Tom Lees header in the 13th minute.

However, Sam Surridge equalised just before the half-hour mark and Ryan Yates headed home eight minutes later to complete the turnaround.

The result brought an end to the Terriers' 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

After the match, Marinakis junior posted a 30-second video of the celebrations at the final whistle on Twitter.

It was accompanied by the words: "Incredible fighting spirit. Onto the next round. Let’s keep going! #NFFC"

He also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the fans, saying: "Thank you for your magnificent support this evening, Reds."

Those words were also accompanied by red heart and applause emojis.

Meanwhile, Forest head coach Cooper is relishing the prospect of facing Liverpool, where he previously had a spell as academy manager.

"It definitely added to the motivation – there’s always context to a game and today was about getting to the quarter-final of a cup and then the possibility of playing Liverpool," he said.

“I think it’s going to catch the imagination a little bit, and that’s important for us, for our supporters here, because we’re a big club as well.

“I never think about myself. We don’t do what it means for individuals, we talk about the collective and the football club.

“There’s not too many people there from when I was there now. We’ll just look forward to it for the club when it comes around.”

Forest are back in Championship action on Saturday, when they face relegation-threatened Reading.

“I’ll only be focused on Reading now and that’s the only thing in my mind," Cooper added.

“We’ll be hopefully ready for it (the Liverpool tie) when it comes around and we’ll be ready to attack the game and enjoy it.

“The boys will enjoy themselves in the dressing room now, but I’ve just said to them when they leave, it’s only one thing on your mind, and that’s Saturday.

“When it comes around it will be amazing, and I’m sorry to be a little bit of a party-pooper.”
