House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has discussed being replaced by another actress on the fantasy drama after five episodes.
The 22-year-old actress has won over fans on the Game of Thrones prequel as teenage Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
But viewers shouldn’t get too used to Milly in the role – as a time jump in the story telling will see her swiftly replaced in the cast with Emma D’Arcy taking over the role from episode six onwards.
While Milly has been holding her own acting in scenes opposite the likes of Matt Smith and Paddy Considine, viewers may find that Emma, 30, has a different approach to playing the part as she portrays a more grown up version of the character.
Milly explained to The Hollywood Reporter: "Me and Emma were like, 'Let's meet up,'
"We wanted to have a meeting with [director Miguel Sapochnik] and have a discussion about Rhaenyra's progression as a character.
"And Miguel didn't want us to meet – which was really interesting! So, we never had that discussion.
"Miguel was like, 'Just trust that you that you both have it.' I think he was aware we would be trying to mimic each other."
Milly isn’t the only actor who will be replaced in the cast when time leaps forward in season one.
Emma Carey will be replaced by Olivia Cooke as the character Lady Alicent Hightower - who is the daughter of Rhys Ifans’ Ser Otto Hightower.
Leo Hart will take on the role of Prince Jacaerys Velaryon - replacing Harry Collett who plays the young prince as a child.
While three actresses will play Lady Laena Velaryon at different stages of life - with Nova Foueillis-Mose, Savannah Steyn and Nanna Blondell all cast in the role.
House of the Dragon has proved to be a hit for HBO – the network that airs the series in the USA – with almost 10 million tuning in for the first episode when it aired last month, while the number rose to 25 million over the course of a week.
The show was swiftly renewed for a second season before the second episode had even aired.
