A spitting row has broken out following Saturday’s feisty derby showdown between Millwall and West Ham. Lions goalkeeper Filip Marschall accused Hammers forward Valentin ‘Taty’ Castellanos of spitting at him during a dramatic second half of a pulsating Championship fixture at The Den. Millwall boss Alex Neil confirmed after the game that the allegation had been made, with West Ham counterpart Nuno Espirito Santo saying he was also aware of it but had yet to see the footage or images in question, or speak to the player.
The incident marred an otherwise thrilling encounter in south London to mark the 100th competitive Dockers Derby and first in any competition since 2012, with a heavy police presence ensuring there was seemingly no fan disorder. It is actually the Lions that shade the overall head-to-head record, with 38 wins to West Ham’s 34. There have been 27 draws.
The Hammers won the last meeting 2-1 at Upton Park in February 2012 despite the early dismissal of Kevin Nolan, en route to making an instant return to the Premier League via the play-offs.
The two teams had played out a goalless draw at The Den five months earlier - the first meeting since West Ham’s 3-1 League Cup win after extra time in 2009 that saw a riot and multiple pitch invasions.
Millwall and West Ham have only played each other seven times this century, with two wins apiece and three draws.

Travelling West Ham fans were told to use South Bermondsey Station, via London Bridge, then go down the walkway straight through to the away turnstiles at The Den.
West Ham warned that fans attempting to use other local stations would be turned away and directed to South Bermondsey.
They also urged supporters not to wear colours.
The Met said that Hammers fans would also likely be guided back to South Bermondsey Station after the match, with it potentially closed to home fans for up to an hour as a result.

Huge police operation in place to stop fan violence

An early look at the scenes around and outside The Den, with the Met deploying 400 officers today in a bid to stop any violence erupting between rival fans.
Many officers deployed will be in riot gear, but without shields.
They are all trained to deal with public disorder.
For context, around 60 to 150 officers normally police games in the Championship, but authorities will be desperate to avoid the sort of disgraceful scenes that marred the League Cup tie between these two clubs at Upton Park in 2009.
Dog units, mounted police and live facial recognition cameras are also being deployed as part of the large-scale operation.
A section 35 dispersal order is also in place covering a large area of south-east London.
