Millions of eligible Medicare beneficiaries are receiving a one-time $90 (£68.40) rebate in October to help offset their Part B premiums. Most payments are being delivered through the Social Security Administration, but the rebate is not a permanent increase in monthly Social Security benefits.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) estimates that 20.8 million beneficiaries qualify. Paying each $90 (£68.40) would cost approximately $1.872 billion (£1.423 billion), equivalent to about 92% of the Medicare Improvement Fund's $2.041 billion (£1.551 billion) statutory allocation.
