Millions of low-income families could be missing out on the savings bonus boost, which gives families claiming certain benefits extra cash to add to their rainy day savings pot. The Help to Save scheme was launched in 2018, but many households don't know about it and are missing out on hundreds of pounds.
To get the maximum £1,200, each eligible person in the household will need to save £50 a month for four years - a total of £2,400. The boost will bring your savings to £3,600 - the equivalent of saving £75 per month. And if there's two people who can open an account each, the totals will be doubled.
