Millions of children have never heard of fruits such as cranberries, satsumas, or apricots, according to research.
The study of 750 children, aged six to 12, also revealed more than a quarter didn’t realise bananas grow on trees, and 23% had no idea potatoes came out of the ground.
Only 9% correctly identified that pineapples grow at the centre of their own plant, with nearly half (49%) believing they grow on trees.
