Over half of British adults feel that stereotypes are overused in films – leaving them feeling offended and misrepresented in movie culture, a study has found.
More than two in five Brits (43 per cent) under the age of 35 admit they struggle to relate to characters they see on the big screen, with nearly a third (30 per cent) saying they have been left offended by a movie cliché.
The most overused tropes people are sick of seeing include black or Latino people portrayed as gang members, females depicted as too weak or sensitive, and overly flamboyant LGBTQ+ characters – like Damien in the 2004 teen comedy hit, Mean Girls.
