Millie Bright insists England will keep improving as Lionesses target Euros after Arnold Clark Cup win

England Women defender Millie Bright declared “this is just the beginning” as the Lionesses kicked off their European Championship preparations by winning the Arnold Clark Cup.

Sarina Wiegman’s side won the round-robin tournament, which contained three sides in the world’s top 10, after beating Germany 3-1 at Molineux.

Ellen White opened the scoring and, despite Lina Magull equalising for Germany before half-time, Millie Bright and Fran Kirby secured the win late on.

The victory means England remain unbeaten under Wiegman, who took charge in September 2021, and they are building well ahead of hosting the Euros this summer.

“This is brilliant. For us in the past it has been a rocky road,” said Chelsea Women defender Bright.

“We are on a journey where we are all as one and we all know what we want the outcome to be - which is to win.

“I’m really proud of how far this squad has come. This is just the beginning.

“It wasn’t pretty out there, but that is just another dynamic to our game - when things aren’t going right we can change things and do it the dirty way to get the job done.

“It’s massive, it keeps our momentum [going]. Ultimately coming into this tournament it was about developing and about people getting minutes and exposure against top teams. We have done that well.

“We have taken our game to another level and shown that we can win.”
