Miley Cyrus is apparently “worried” about having to publicly confess that her ex Liam Hemsworth inspired her 2023 smash “Flowers”, after she was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit.
As per TMZ, the pop star is being sued by Tempo Music Investments, which believes the song is similar to Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” and claims to own a share of its copyright.
Miley is supposedly not too fussed about the actual lawsuit, but is horrified by the prospect of having to drag her ex Liam into the mess, as the song is rumoured to have been written about the breakdown of their relationship.
“Miley is not too concerned with the lawsuit itself, but everyone who knows Miley knows this track was written as a way of healing from Liam,” a source told Daily Mail.
The couple tied the knot in December 2018, but their marriage didn’t last long — the pair divorced in January 2020.
“When I Was Your Man” was reportedly a special song for the couple, with Liam thought to have dedicated it to Miley in 2013. Bruno’s song was also apparently played at their wedding, so it was a power move for Miley to transform the hit into her most successful song.
Fans have also speculated that the song and music video hint towards Liam’s alleged infidelity. Look, this all needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but if there’s any truth to the rumours, I can see why she doesn’t wanna air out their dirty laundry in the public eye.
“She wrote lyrics that were a reaction to Bruno’s lyrics in ‘Your Man’, specifically because that was Liam’s song to her. She only cared that he knew it was for him,” the insider spilled.
“She is worried that she will have to reveal her inspiration for writing the song. While she has no issue stating it was a response to Bruno, revealing it was specifically about Liam publicly and on record is very unsettling.”
Miley has yet to officially comment on the whole sitch, and the source believes she’s waiting it out for now.
“At this point she is just seeing how this plays out and is hoping it gets tossed out before any of that becomes a real possibility,” the source claimed.
The insider also claimed that Miley wasn’t focussing on any similarities between “Flowers” and “When I Was Your Man” when it was released, because she was “so focused on making these digs at Liam over his alleged affair and that overshadowed anything else”.
Spicy!!!
At this stage, most of the lawsuit details are under wraps so it’s unclear how much money Tempo Music Investments is requesting from Miley.
However, the firm is calling to force Miley and her label to stop distributing “Flowers”, along with enforcing a ban so Miley can never perform the song again. Say it isn’t so!
