Mikel Arteta transfer decision vindicated as Matteo Guendouzi has major bust-up with manager

Former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has reportedly fallen out with new Marseille boss Igor Tudor despite the Croat only arriving at the Stade Vélodrome in July.

Guendouzi, who endured a turbulent end to his career at the Emirates Stadium, has a history of disciplinary issues after being frozen out of the first team in North London at the end of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Such issues have evidently extended to his time with Marseille with well-known disciplinarian Tudor reportedly unhappy with his squad's attitude after he replaced Jorge Sampaoli.

L’Equipe claim the 23-year-old had a ‘lively altercation’ with the boss at half-time of last week’s friendly defeat to AC Milan. Little details are known in regards to what the face-off was based around, but it apparently resulted in Guendouzi leaving the stadium and not appearing for the second half.

Such incidents, however, have not been a rarity at the club this summer. Gerson, Jordan Amavi and Kevin Strootman are said to have all clashed with Tudor which subsequently led club president Pablo Longoria to remind unhappy players that they ‘come to his office and ask for a transfer’.

The same report also states that Guendouzi was set to be benched for the first game of the season against Reims on Sunday night as a stark reminder of expectations.

After two loan spells away from The Emirates Stadium, Guendouzi eventually left the club permanently last month when OM activated their option-to-buy clause in for a reported £9 million. He made 82 appearances for Arsenal and scored his only goal in the Europa League against Qarabağ.
