Mikel Arteta sends Edu transfer message after Arsenal vs Burnley amid Dusan Vlahovic rumours

Mikel Arteta has conceded that Arsenal need "a different level of quality" after the Gunners were held to a goalless draw at home to Burnley.

Arsenal are still without a win in 2022, denting their chances of securing UEFA Champions League football this season, with the Clarets coming to the Emirates Stadium and frustrating the hosts on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with Dusan Vlahovic, with football.london understanding the north Londoners are pursuing a move for the Fiorentina striker this month.

However, with now just over a week remaining of the January transfer window, the chances of securing a big-money move for the 21-year-old are fading with every day.

Arsenal's need for a top-class striker was so apparent in their goalless stalemate with Burnley on Sunday and after the game, Arteta admitted that he needs more quality in his squad - in what could be interpreted as a message to the club's technical director Edu.

"The way we started the game was slow probably because of Thursday. The second half was completely different," the Arsenal boss said after the draw at the Emirates Stadium.

"To win this match you need to have a different level of quality. Someone has to win you the game if you want to be on the top."

Arteta was also asked directly if Arsenal are pushing for any incomings before the end of the month and revealed that the club are trying to bring some fresh faces to the Emirates.

He said: "Well, we are certainly trying, but I do not know if we are going to be able to do it. Let's see, it is not only our intention, but a lot of facts that are needed to happen."

The Arsenal boss went on to say: "The market is difficult, it is complicated. We knew that, but it is a lot to manage and we have to make the right decisions with players that we believe are going to really help us and try to bring in ones that can take us to the next level.

"Players that come here have to be able to take us to the next level. We already have a level, and we want to see much better standards than we already have, and that is how we are going to recruit."

There is set to be plenty of business behind the scenes at the Emirates in the final days of the window, but Arsenal supporters, and Arteta, will be desperate for a new striker to walk through the door.
