Mikel Arteta's transfer wishlist and where Arsenal stand going into deadline day

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has again been busy in the transfer window, making five signings so far this summer with more activity being expected by the time it slams shut.

The Gunners have substantially revamped their squad over the course of the summer, as Arteta looks to bounce back from missing out on the top four last season. Their recruitment already looks to have worked wonders, with Arteta's men sitting at the top of the league.

Arsenal appear to be well set for the first-half of the season, with the window closing on Thursday night. Here, Mirror Football looks at how well Arsenal have managed to secure the players on Arteta's wishlist heading into deadline day.

Gabriel Jesus

Arteta quickly secured his top target at the start of July, paying out £45million to bring in Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. A striker was at the top of the agenda following the exit of Alexandre Lacazette.

With the arrival of Erling Haaland at City and Jesus entering the final year of his contract the Brazilian soon became the most attractive option. While the Gunners flirted with a move for Gianluca Scamacca, Jesus was always their top target, with the striker already delighting fans with his performances.

Jesus has Eddie Nketiah serving as his back-up, meaning that Arteta is unlikely to be looking for an additional forward on deadline day. If Jesus continues his Arsenal career in the same vein he has started, Arteta will be very happy.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

There was a theme to Arsenal's summer window, with Oleksandr Zinchenko becoming the second Manchester City player to move to the Emirates. With Kieran Tierney suffering frequent injury problems and Nuno Tavares failing to impress, a new option at left-back was needed.

Zinchenko also provides an option in central midfield and has previous experience of working with Arteta from the latter's time as Pep Guardiola's assistant at City. The move to the Gunners was also a dream one for the Ukrainian.

"This is a boyhood dream come true, because I was a massive fan when I was a kid. Since Thierry Henry and young Cesc Fabregas was playing here, I was just enjoying watching those games, that Arsenal. And obviously I started to love this club, so I am so excited and I cannot wait to play for this amazing club," he said.

Fabio Vieira

More of a shock move than Jesus and Zincheno was the £34m signing of Porto star Fabio Vieira. Arsenal moved quickly after news of their interest in the 22-year-old broke, completing the transfer in June.

Vieira is still yet to make his debut for the Gunners, though he has been named on the bench in their last two games. The midfielder certainly appears to be more of a 'one for the future signing' despite his high cost, with Arteta excited to be able to deploy him.

"I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season,” the Arsenal boss said.

Lucas Paqueta

The summer window has not been a total success for Arsenal though, having missed out on long-term target Lucas Paqueta. The midfielder has starred for Lyon, with the Gunners linked with making move for some time.

Gunners sporting director Edu has previously made his desire to sign Paqueta clear with talks being held between the two clubs. Instead though, the Brazilian has completed a £51m move to West Ham, with Arsenal now searching for an alternative option. Another midfielder could still come through the door, particularly after an injury to Mohamed Elneny, with Leicester's Youri Tielemans long considered an option.

Pedro Neto

Having seen their push to sign Leeds star Raphinha collapse, Arsenal turned towards Wolves winger Pedro Neto. Arteta has been keen to boost his options out wide for much of the summer window.

Neto quickly became their top option after seeing Raphinha snub a move to the Emirates in favour of joining Barcelona. While a move has so far failed to materialise, they could still make a late bid for him on deadline day, with around £50m thought to be enough to potentially tempt Wolves.
