As it became clear that Leandro Trossard was going to become an Arsenal player, eyebrows were raised. Not because he isn't a good player. Acquiring Premier League proven quality in the January window is notoriously tough, and finding a player versatile enough to play anywhere across the front line at the top level is arguably even tougher.
Instead the questions were over the Belgian international's age. 'He's 28' began trending on Twitter instantly as fans began to question the direction the Arsenal recruitment drive was taking. The last player to have come into the club over the age of 25 was Thomas Partey and the Gunners current Premier League title charge has been built on youthful core.
Despite his undoubted quality it's impossible to deny that Trossard is different to any signing that Arsenal have made so far. For Mikel Arteta though the Belgian's arrival heralds the beginning of a new era at the Emirates.
