St Mary's hasn't been a particularly happy hunting ground for Arsenal in recent seasons. The Saints have defeated the Gunners in three of their last six meetings in Hampshire, with Arsenal winning two and the other finishing in a draw.
While Arsenal's record on the south coast isn't great - nor is Southampton's. Their only win at home this season came against Chelsea in August - and their previous St Mary's victory was against Arsenal on April 16.
However, the Gunners' record against Southampton is a patchy one against a team who they would be expected to beat. Arsenal go into this afternoon's clash as heavy favourites, with Mikel Arteta's side a whole 16 points clear of the Saints with a game in hand.

The form book suggests that an away win is a formality, but there is one particular stat that will give Arsenal fans huge confidence going into the clash. As shown by a graph from The Athletic, no team in the Premier League has spent more time winning this season than Arsenal.
The Gunners have spent 59% of their game time in a winning position - bettering Manchester City's 57%. Arsenal have only been behind for 7% of the season.
As if that wasn't good enough for the Gunners, Southampton have the worst record when it comes to spending time ahead in games. The Saints have spent 40% of their league games in a losing position, spending just 12% ahead.
Arsenal are well-versed in being in front, while the Saints are used to being behind. It's another stat which indicates that an away win is highly likely, although Ralph Hasenhuttl's side will take hope from the fact that Arsenal haven't had much recent success in Hampshire.
