Arsenal have been handed the green light to finally sign Real Madrid star Marcos Asensio this summer. The Spanish winger was offered a new deal to stay at Los Blancos but he has rejected that proposal and if no fresh terms are offered, he will become a free agent ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The Gunners have wanted to sign Asensio since the summer of 2021 and have shown strong interest in the following windows, but a move has never materialised. Despite playing 50 games for Madrid this season in five different competitions, Asensio has mostly had to settle for cameo appearances, however he has still scored 12 goals and grabbed eight assists.
Acquiring a new winger does appear unlikely for Arsenal given the decision to sign Leandro Trossard in January and offer Reiss Nelson a new bumper deal which he looks set to accept. However, the chance to sign Asensio as a free agent could be an opportunity that is too great to pass up.

When asked about Asensio, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti did not explicitly confirm his departure, but did appear to hint he will be leaving the club this summer. "On the subject of Asensio I don't know what the situation is, just as I don't know about Nacho," Ancelotti revealed.
"Before the last game everything will be cleared up. On a personal level I'm sad to see them go because they are very important. We'll prepare for next season depending on the decisions they make."
According to Fabrizio Romano, Premier League clubs are aware of Asensio's situation, but they will all face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain. The recently-crowned French champions could lose both Lionel Messi and Neymar this summer which would leave them light for options in attack.
