Mikel Arteta has revealed talks have taken place between himself and Kieran Tierney about his Arsenal future. Reports in recent weeks have linked Newcastle United with a move for the Scotland international.
Dan Burn has deputised at left-back for the injured Matt Targett this season but has come undone in recent weeks against high-level opposition. While the Blyth-born defender has done a commendable job, he is not regarded as the long-term option in that role.
Tierney, as talented as he is, has barely featured for Arsenal this season. Summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenkohas displaced him in the Gunners’ setup while injury problems have continued to plague his career.

Just three Premier League starts in 2022-23 is reflective of a player who needs a fresh lease of life at a new club. While there is no doubt Tierney, valued at £30million, has the quality to play for Newcastle, question marks remain over his fitness.
Speaking to reporters at his pre-Sporting Libson press conference, Arteta admitted discussions had taken place about Tierney's future. The Spaniard said: "(It was) very good because we talked and discussed the situation. We had a very similar opinion about that.
"He knows his role. Under me, he’s played a lot. More than any other player probably compared to the previous players at the club in the last three years. He understands the situation and he needs to challenge the situation."
