Mike Tyson leaves coach with busted lip from huge punch in training session

Boxing legend Mike Tyson left his coach with a busted lip after landing a thumping left hand during a training session.

Tyson was known for his thunderous power during his heavyweight career having scored 44 knockouts in his 50 professional victories. He has been heavily linked with another return to the boxing ring having remained in shape since his exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr in 2020.

The 55-year-old posted footage of his latest session with coach Rafael Cordeiro on Instagram, with the caption: "When you play with fire eventually you will get burned. Sorry about that." Tyson can be seen working the pads during the short clip landing some whipping shots into the pads of Cordeiro who initially seemed content.

But Tyson then unleashed a booming left hand which caught the trainer on the bottom of his face by accident. After the session was over, Tyson's coach then shows his bust lip to the camera and adds: "Today was the day. You play with fire it sometimes happens." Cordeiro laughs and was seemingly in good spirits despite being injured by the legendary heavyweight.

Tyson has been called out by Paul brothers Jake and Logan should he choose to step beyond the ropes again. Joe Rogan even claimed that Tyson was taking supplements to remain in good condition for any future exhibition.

Tyson staged a hugely successful event facing Jones Jr and has since been subject to continuous talks of a return. It was claimed that Tyson had verbally agreed to face Jake Paul last year in a bout that could be worth up to $100 million. But the pair promptly denied any agreement was in place, despite having met on multiple occasions.

After suggesting he would never face Paul in the ring, Tyson has recently confirmed his plans to reopen talks with Paul over a high-profile exhibition bout. "I'm going to call him sometime Friday and we're going to talk, absolutely," Tyson said on the Club Random Podcast. "I don't look at him the way society looks at him, I can't even say what they call him.

Paul has confirmed his return to the ring on August 13 with an opponent yet to be named from a shortlist which includes Tommy Fury and UFC legend Anderson Silva. The YouTube star has recently declared he is open to any bout with Tyson and believes the fight could generate a record-breaking revenue of $300 million.

"The old generation of boxing with the new generation of boxing, all being mixed into one," Paul told Boxing Social about the potential fight. "As Mike Tyson said on the Joe Rogan podcast, it would be one of the biggest pay-per-views of all time."

"Together when we were on the same card, we sold almost two million pay-per-views. It could be three million pay-per-views, four million pay-per-views. Mike Tyson like you said on the podcast, if you're watching this, let's make the fight happen."
