Mike Tindall apologised for revealing Prince William’s 'One Pint' nickname

The Prince of Wales has said that Mike Tindall apologised to him after publicly revealing his less-than-flattering nickname.

The former England rugby player revealed in December that he calls William “One Pint Willy” given his lightweight status at the bar.

"He is not the best of drinkers," Mr Tindall, 45, told the BBC's Seven: Rob Burrow podcast. "Coming from a sport where it is built on the social aspect and a couple of beers being sunk quite often. That is one I will give away for the Prince of Wales."

After Mr Tindall's admission, his wife and William's cousin, Zara, exclaimed: "Oh my god, you're in so much trouble."

BBC Breakfast has now released a clip of William discussing the nickname admission during a conversation with Mr Burrow while awarding him a CBE in Leeds.

In the clip, Mr Burrow tells the royal that he “recently met Zara and Mike”, adding: “Mike has some secrets he told me which the kids found very amusing.”

William, who smiles and shakes his head knowingly, replies: “I think that might be some of the nicknames. Was it you who got the nicknames out of him?”

The Prince added: “He apologised to me about that. I was like, "Mike, when you say you're not going to mention anyone's nicknames that doesn't mean you can then mention my nickname. That's not fair.”

William later presented Mr Burrow with his CBE medal for his motor neurone diseases fundraising efforts.

Presenting Mr Burrow, 41, with the honour, he said: "The most amount of thank yous and congratulations for all the inspirational work you've done Rob, you've been amazing and everyone's so proud of you."

Mike and William have enjoyed a close relationship since before the rugby star met Zara in 2004,owing to the heir being a huge fan of the sport and patron of the Welsh rugby union side.

The Prince enjoys a few pints, and has been pictured drinking beer with Kate, as well as in nightclubs and at sporting events.

In 2021, he appeared on ex-Liverpool and England footballer Peter Crouch's podcast, spending three hours enjoying beers and a curry as they recorded the special episode at Kensington Palace.
