Mike Prendergast will swap Racing 92 for Munster Rugby in the summer as attack coach on a three year contract.
Prendergast, who had two spells at Munster as a scrum-half, has been on the province's wanted list since Johann van Graan and Stephen Larkham announced late last year that they will be leaving in the summer.
The Reds have now confirmed that Prendergast has agreed to leave his post as Racing's backs coach to take up his role alongside Munster's new boss in waiting Graham Rowntree from July 1.
Prendergast has been with Racing for three years, having previously worked as a coach with Grenoble, Oyonnax and Stade Francais.
Midi Olympique has quoted the Limerick man as saying: "It's above all a family choice.
"I have been really happy at Racing, I have an excellent relationship with Laurent Travers and Jacky Lorenzetti, but some family matters are pushing me today to return.
“In the meantime, I hope that we will have a great end to the season and that we will offer a title to this club."
Denis Leamy, who is currently with Leinster, is another former Munster star who is strongly linked with a return to his own province in the summer.
News of Prendergast's decision is another boost for the Reds ahead of Saturday's massive Heineken Champions Cup clash with Toulouse at the Aviva Stadium.
