Prime Video's new Carrie series is expected to arrive in autumn 2026, and we've been given our first look at Mike Flanagan's latest adaptation.

Like many horror fans, I have huge faith in anything Flanagan makes. He's already made quite the impression on Netflix with horror hits like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.

Over on rival streaming service Prime Video, he's tackling Stephen King's first novel, Carrie. And even though it's very different from the Brian De Palma classic starring Sissy Spacek, I still think this series has a lot of potential.

This week, Entertainment Weekly exclusively shared some new images from the series, giving us a first look at Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, Matthew Lillard as Principal Henry Grayle, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, and Siena Agudong as Sue Snell.

But this is not a direct adaptation, as it features a modern twist instead, so fans who have already seen the previous Carrie are getting something new.

Flanagan has already adapted three Stephen King stories: Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, all of which were received well. Will he be able to do it all over again with Carrie?

In a new interview explaining his decision, Flanagan told Entertainment Weekly: “De Palma adapted it faithfully and beautifully 50 years ago. Then it’s been adapted twice after that, officially and unofficially. It’s been imitated scores of times. So for me, this was never going to be a straight adaptation."

"The only way to approach it was to build something new out of the ingredients of Carrie. Otherwise, there’s really no purpose in trying to retread ground that’s been so beautifully walked before.”

Safe to say we can expect a fresh new take, and I really am excited to see where he goes with it. Even now, the story of Carrie White feels so relevant, and I'm confident that it will do well in a modern setting.
