Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ adaptation proves Hollywood is still too afraid to give us the one thing Stephen King fans are begging for

Carrie was written over 50 years ago, but the story is still incredibly relevant in today’s world. In case you somehow weren’t aware, horror maestro Mike Flanagan recently gave fans of the story his updated take on Stephen King’s story in the form of an eight-part Amazon Prime series, and it’s pretty good. Unfortunately, the show falls into the same trap as all of the previous adaptations, and it proves that Hollywood is still too scared to give us a book-accurate Carrie.

While Summer H. Howell undoubtedly gives a fantastic performance as the titular character, her version of the character is a far cry from her book counterpart. While book Carrie is described as a “chunky girl” with pimples and greasy hair, Flanagan’s version (much like all the adaptations before it) features a conventionally attractive, skinny girl with flawless skin.
