  • Around 100 anti-migrant protesters gathered at Haslar Marina in Gosport on Sunday evening following the arrival of a dinghy carrying 149 migrants from France .
  • The small boat was shadowed by French rescue vessels before being met in English waters by RNLI boats, which brought the passengers ashore in Gosport.
  • Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary deployed officers to the scene, where crowds chanted at police and let off flares, prompting authorities to issue a dispersal order until Tuesday morning.
  • The Home Office confirmed that the migrants will be transported to short-term holding facilities in Kent to undergo health, security and biometric checks.
  • Provisional figures show 19,451 people have crossed the English Channel in small boats this year, representing a decrease compared to recent years.
