Midlothian youths 'pour sunscreen on cars' at Tesco as police called to 'lawless' zone

Police in Midlothian were once again called to reports of antisocial behaviour at a Tesco car park with a group of youths reportedly squirting sun cream on cars.

The Tesco at Hardengreen, Bonnyrigg Road, has become a lawless zone in recent months with police constantly being called to reports of youths gathering and engaging in antisocial behaviour.

Several Lothian Buses have been diverted from the area and some have even suffered broken windows as a result of projectiles being thrown. On Wednesday, April 26, officers were called to the area yet again after reports suggest youths were throwing sunscreen over customers' cars.

A spokesperson for Tesco confirmed staff were forced to call the police following an incident, and when they arrived, no criminality was established.

One eye witness at the scene reportedly saw teenagers throwing sun cream over vehicles and filling water balloons to throw. The group then made their way to the McDonald's over the road, where they were asked to leave.

A spokesperson for the fast food chain confirmed a group of four or five individuals were loud and swearing outside around 4:45pm and were told to leave, which they did without any escalation.

Police in the area, as well as representatives from Lothian Buses, have been working together and patrolling the area recently following an increase in antisocial behaviour.

Similar incidents have been reported in the Gore Avenue, Gorebridge. Locals previously told Edinburgh Live how youths 'fight' to claim the area around the terminus where several buses conclude their route.

Residents say their property has been damaged as a result of teenagers gathering and say the area is a 'no-go zone'.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15pm on Wednesday, 26 April, 2023, police were called to reports of anti-social behaviour involving a group of youths in the Bonnyrigg Road area of Dalkeith.

“Officers attended and no criminality was established.”
