Midlothian lorry driver helps man in wheelchair cross road during icy conditions

A kind-hearted Midlothian truck driver was captured stopping traffic to help a man in a wheelchair across the road during icy conditions.

The man, driving a Midlothian Skip Hire lorry, stopped at the side of the road in the centre of Loanhead on Thursday afternoon when he noticed a disabled man approaching a crossing on a tricky downhill section of the pavement.

With temperatures sitting at sub-zero, the generous lorry driver got out of his cab and wheeled the man across the road safely as one motorist captured the heart-warming moment on her phone.

In the video, both ends of the pavement can be seen with snow either side on the slight downhill slope as the Met Office has warned locals within eastern Scotland to expect icy conditions while temperatures sit around -2C.

A yellow warning has also been issued for Friday, December 16, as more snowfall is expected in Edinburgh and the Lothians, followed by a higher chance of icy and slippery conditions in the coming days.

Resident Debbie Jonhston posted the video on her Facebook page to thank the man who was quickly identified within the local community as various people joined in to leave a nice message.
