Midlothian drivers dumbstruck as stubborn cows get loose and block commuter road

We have all found ourselves running late for work from time to time and had to come up with elaborate excuses from accidents on the road to our cars not starting.

But one Midlothian woman had a peculiar real life reason for not being able to let her colleagues into the office on time.

Laura D’Arcy, was travelling along Greenhall Road in Gorebridge shortly before 09.00am on the morning of Wednesday July 20, when she witnessed a group of cows sauntering across the road.

In disbelief, she pulled over to grab a picture of the roaming animals that had decided to escape from their field, so that her boss would believe her about the hold up.

At least four cows can be seen getting a moo-ve on as their four hoofed friends remain in the field adjacent to them.

And after taking in the sight herself, Laura along with other drivers frantically tried to contact the local farmer to say that his animals were on the run.

Thankfully the farmer was made aware of the breakout attempt and it is understood that they were able to gather the cows before they made their way further down the road.

On the incident, Laura said: “It was rather funny to be honest. I just saw them all piling out.

“I was late for work but they were all over the road. We had to find the owners incase anything happened to them.

“Someone else found the owners and they were tagged in a post on Facebook. I was only ten minutes late so it wasn't an issue. But I was opening up the building, so others had to wait.

“It happened at around 08:50am this morning. It made a few people smile, that's for sure.

“Bus drivers were laughing and cars slowed down when passing on Greenhall Road too.”
