Midlothian couple's porch plans refused by council after planners labelled it a 'conservatory'

An older couple’s bid to build a front porch, which would give them easier access into their home, has been thrown out after planners branded the extension a conservatory.

The application for the add on to the ground floor property in a block of four on Mansfield Place, Newtongrange, was refused planning permission because it was too big to be a porch.

Midlothian planners said that at 3.1 metres by 3 metres the extension was ‘bulky and prominent’ and did not meet the standard porch size.
