RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer has revealed he is a Liverpool fan just weeks after being linked with a summer move to Anfield.
Laimer has been at Leipzig for five years but has less than one year remaining on his current contract, which expires on July 1, 2023. That means clubs in Europe can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the 25-year-old from January 1, 2023. And speculation has suggested that the Reds could be one of those clubs.
With Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sustaining injuries during the months of August and July, Liverpool were continually linked with a whole host of midfielders. One of those was Laimer, with a report in The Athletic revealing Reds officials had enquired about his services but their interest was subsequently rebuffed due to Leipzig's reluctance to lose the Austria international so close to the end of the window.

As events panned out, Liverpool instead completed a late swoop for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan, in a deal that presents the club with the opportunity to make the exchange permanent next summer.
But in a recent interview with German publication Bild, Laimer, sparked fresh speculation that he could be on his way to Anfield in the near future after admitting he is a fan of the club.
“I’m generally a football fan. I generally like watching the Premier League. I’ve always been a Liverpool fan,” said Laimer, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich. “Surely there are such thoughts. I don’t think a club (Bayern Munich) like that comes knocking every summer, it’s one of the best in the world.
“I’m a here and now focused. If you worry too much, you lose sight of the most important thing – and that is playing football and getting better. I’ve been at Leipzig for five years and I feel good. Now it will be a year longer and then we will see what happens.
“When you’re associated with clubs like this, there’s a certain pride. But I’m more the guy who talks to people and needs a feeling that everything fits together.”
Having joined RB Leipzig in 2017, Laimer previously plied his trade at RB Salzburg before he became the latest footballer to progress through the Red Ball transfer scheme with a move to the Bundesliga outfit.
