Mid Ulster District Council’s elected representatives claimed almost £700,000 in allowances in the 2021/22 financial year.
The figures, released by the local authority, show that during the 2021/22 financial year, 40 councillors were paid a total of £699,660
The highest earning councillor in the district was Councillor Paul McLean who spent much of the year as chair of the local authority. He claimed a total of £27,320.

Over the course of the 2021/22 financial year, the Magherafelt representative received the same annual basic allowance as the other members who served the district for the full financial year – £15,486.
Cllr McLean also received £11,394 in chairperson allowance and claimed £440 in subsistence including accommodation.
Sinn Fein Councillor Cathal Mallaghan, who was chair for a short time in the 2021/22 financial year, took home a total of £19,444.
Cllr Mallaghan claimed £15,486 in basic allowance, £2,606 in chairperson allowance, £1,220 in mileage and £132 in subsistence including accommodation.
The deputy chair for much of the financial year, SDLP Councillor Christine McFlynn claimed £21,981 in the 2021/22 financial year.
The Magherafelt councillor claimed £15,486 in basic allowance and £6,401 in vice chairperson allowance. She also claimed £351 in mileage and £40 in subsistence.
Councillor Meta Graham who served part of her time as deputy chair of the council during the 2021/22 financial year claimed a total of £17,170.
The Clogher Valley councillor claimed £15,486 in basic allowance and £1,396 in vice chairperson allowance, £236 for mileage allowance and £52 for subsistence.
Ulster Unionist Party group leader, Councillor Walter Cuddy claimed just the basic allowance of £15,486 in the 2021/22 financial year. He claimed no mileage or subsistence.
SDLP group leader, Councillor Malachy Quinn claimed a total of £16,789. He claimed the £15,486 basic allowance and £1,303 in special responsibility allowance.
Aside from Council’s Chair and Vice Chair, DUP councillor Kyle Black and Sinn Fein councillor Dominic Molloy received the most money during the 2021/22 financial year.
Cllr Black claimed £15,486 in basic allowance and £6,069 in special responsibility allowance. He also claimed £254 in mileage and £98 in special responsibility allowance for a total of £21,907.
Cllr Molloy claimed £15,486 in basic allowance and £5,697 in special responsibility allowance. He also claimed £519 in mileage allowance for a total of £21,702.
Independent councillor Barry Monteith claimed only the standard allowance of £15,486 while fellow independent Councillor Dan Kerr claimed the basic allowance of £15,486 and a special responsibility allowance of £1,628 for a total of £17,114.
