For the first time, Hard Knocks: Offseason With the New York Giants is giving us an inside look at how an NFL team approaches the league calendar’s transactional, open market period. It’s a stark change of pace from the usual training camp (like with the New York Jets) or in-season purview (like with the Miami Dolphins) of recent years.
The first episode has already shared a juicy bomb regarding how New York eventually landed franchise pass-rusher Brian Burns.
It features a conversation between Giants general manager Joe Schoen, Bills GM Brandon Beane, and Panthers GM Dan Morgan. As Schoen tried (and failed) to shop the Giants’ No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to Beane, Morgan let slip that he was willing to hear offers about the veteran Burns.
Schoen’s joyous reaction makes it clear this was likely exactly when the Giants planted a seed about acquiring Burns:

Look, if an offseason Hard Knocks will give us awesome little details like this, I’m all for the NFL continuing to churn out more and more documentary-style coverage. It will never get old. Next, I want to see how Daniel Jones reacted to New York’s pick of Malik Nabers.
Please keep it coming, folks!
