Microsoft Teams will help you pinpoint the right colleague for tasks based on merit — no more "Who should handle this?" debates

Microsoft is expected to add a new feature to Teams that will significantly improve the video conferencing tool's user experience by how it displays people and meetings. The feature tagged 552588 in Microsoft's 365 Roadmap will expand People Skills on the Microsoft 365 profile card on Microsoft Teams.

This way, it will be much easier to know your colleagues' capabilities and skillset based on the information provided in their profile cards (via XDA).

Video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom saw widespread adoption during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, enabling organizations to sustain business operations through hybrid and remote work strategies. However, things have seemingly returned to normal, and more organizations are mandating their return-to-office (RTO) plans.

Microsoft has also seemingly joined the fold, indicating that employees tend to work best when collaborating in person. Microsoft employees working within 50 miles of a Microsoft office will be expected to work onsite for at least three days per week by the end of this month. This doesn't necessarily mean that the company is giving up on Teams either.

Access to People Skills on the Microsoft 365 profile card is expanding to Microsoft Teams. With this update, employees will be able to view skills directly on the profile card in Teams—making it easier to learn about colleagues, build meaningful connections, and manage their own skills profile right from within their everyday flow of work.

It certainly seems like a productivity booster and time saver. First, you'll no longer need to jump through hoops trying to identify the right person for the job. And perhaps more importantly, this feature may come in handy when working on a project that you want to keep under wraps.

Of course, this feature will only work effectively and efficiently when everyone plays ball and updates their profile cards with the relevant information. The feature is expected to ship in general availability by March 2026.

Elsewhere, Microsoft Teams will allow organizations to add branded reactions in video meetings, encouraging corporate emojis that promote their identity and themes.
