Microsoft, Palantir Team Up On Artificial Intelligence, National Security Push

Microsoft and Palantir Technologies on Thursday said they will partner to sell artificial intelligence-based data analytics products and services to U.S. defense and intelligence agencies. Palantir stock rose on the news.

Palantir's data analytics software and "Artificial Intelligence Platform" will be offered through Microsoft's Azure cloud computing service. Also, Palantir will be "an early adopter of Azure's OpenAI Service" in Microsoft's government and classified cloud environments, the companies said.

Further, Microsoft has integrated startup OpenAI's large language models into the Azure cloud computing platform.

Palantir Stock: Building AI Workloads

In addition, LLMs require training data for specific tasks. They're made of neural networks — or mathematical models that imitate the human brain — that generate outputs from the training data.

Further, language models understand the way that humans write and speak. They allow users to interact with AI systems without the need to understand or write algorithms. The models process "prompts," such as internet search queries, that describe what a user wants to get.

Meanwhile, Palantir's artificial intelligence "use case building capabilities will help enable operators to safely and responsibly build AI-driven operational workloads across defense and intelligence verticals — from logistics, to contracting, to prioritization and action planning, and more," the two companies said.

On the stock market today, Palantir stock jumped 9% to 28.70 in midday trading. Microsoft stock rose 1.1% to 402.91. Palantir stock has gained 67% in 2024. Microsoft stock is up 7%.

In addition, the Q2 earnings of Palantir stock topped expectations.

Also, Palantir rolled out its "Artificial Intelligence Platform" in early 2023. The company hosted its fourth AIP event in June.

At AIPCon4, Palantir said over 70 commercial customers presented their prototype to production-grade AI use cases via Palantir's "boot camps." More than 1,300 AIP boot camps have been completed since 2023, including 900 this year and nearly 500 since March.

Meanwhile, Palantir is among AI stocks to watch.
