Microsoft took a decisive leap into the clinical domain after publishing peer-reviewed research demonstrating that its medical machine-learning system systematically outperformed qualified physicians in complex diagnostic trials.
Detailed in the academic journal Science, the experimental technology, known formally as the Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO), achieved an 83.2 per cent diagnostic success rate across 304 complex cases drawn from the New England Journal of Medicine, compared with an accuracy rate of just 36.1 per cent recorded by human generalist practitioners.
