This one is going to sting for a while. Michigan State football, despite being a road underdog, felt like they had many, many chances to pull away against Boston College on Saturday night, but they ultimately couldn’t stop shooting themselves in the foot and lost to BC, 23 to 19.
The Spartans had four turnovers on the night, three of which came from quarterback Aidan Chiles, including one in the closing moments of the game that sealed the win for the Eagles. MSU ended up settling for field goals on multiple drives, and while Jonathan Kim was very impressive hitting those, they always say that field goals will cost you on the road, and it did here tonight.
MSU had a chance to go up on the Eagles near the end of the game, but a bobbled pass to Nate Carter led to another Kim field goal. Boston College immediately went down the field and scored a touchdown. MSU actually put a nice drive together, with Jack Velling making multiple nice catches in the middle of the field, but an errant throw from Chiles ended the game.
The Spartans will now have to face two top ten teams in a row, with Ohio State next week and Oregon coming after that.
