Michigan linebacker D.J. White is seeing his recruitment heat up.
A standout linebacker at Orchard Park St. Mary’s, White is an intriguing prospect because of his length as well as his instincts. He covers lots of turf and is quite the weapon as a blitzer. White is strong in run defense and regularly makes plays in the backfield.
He does a nice job of getting off his blocks in pursuit of the ball carrier.
In the past 48 hours, he has three offers from Power Five programs: Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Penn State. White told USA TODAY High School Sports that the recent spike in his recruitment is exciting.
Boston College, Michigan State, Nebraska and Kansas are potentially showing him the most love.
“My recruitment is going great, just got an offer to Penn State,” White said.
“I’m planning to commit (somewhere) during the summer.”
The Penn State offer, obviously, is a big deal for White and his recruitment. The Nittany Lions are doing well right now for White as they are a program he is very high on.
“So, Penn State was a blessing to get,” White said.
“I watched Penn State growing up. I’ve been to Penn State when I was a kid. It’s a nice program and the one thing that stands out (about them) to me is they have high expectations.”
White said Penn State is definitely getting a visit at some point.
Michigan State is another program that is doing well with White. The in-state program will be getting a visit from White soon.
“Michigan State’s coaches are amazing,” White said.
“They want me to come play there. I have a great relationship with the coaching staff…I’ll be visiting on February 3.”
This week, Rutgers offered White. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 7-6 season where they played the second-toughest schedule in the country.
They beat Miami in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.
“I’m definitely thinking about visiting,” White said.
“Waiting until I get this schedule. Overall, I like what I’ve seen so far.”
