Kelli Bryant, a 35-year-old Michigan woman, is heading to prison for child abandonment after having left her three children living in total squalor for years. Following a long and difficult trial filled with accusations of delay and other twists, she was sentenced to six to 30 years in prison on Tuesday following her no-contest plea to three counts of child abuse.
On February 14, 2025, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies discovered the children in a Pontiac condominium in February 2025 during a welfare check. Per Law & Crime, deputies found garbage stacked as high as four feet, mold throughout the unit, and human feces filling the bathtub and overflowing from the toilet. The children, who were 15, 13, and 12 at the time of the discovery, had been surviving like this since 2020 or 2021.
