A Michigan lottery player was in for surprise of his life when he claimed what he thought was a modest Powerball prize—only to discover it was worth $200,000.
MacKenzie had matched four white balls and the Powerball in the November 30 drawing, with the winning numbers 04-24-29-39-63, PB: 25.
"After the drawing, I took my ticket to a retailer to check it and thought maybe I'd won $1,500 or a smaller prize over $600 after getting a message to file a claim at the Lottery office," Mackenzie said. He made a call to his sister to check the winning numbers.
Mackenzie's winning drawing was actually for the $50,000 prize, but the Power Play multiplied that amount by four.
"When we found out the ticket was a $200,000 winner, we were both shocked and excited!" MacKenzie said. "Winning is a huge blessing that came just in time for the holidays."
MacKenzie plans to use his winnings for a vacation, continue playing Powerball, and save the rest.
Powerball tickets cost $2, with an optional $1 Power Play that can multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times, to a maximum of $2 million.
