Michigan has $48.4 million in federal rural health money still waiting to be allocated as an Oct. 30 federal deadline approaches, and a key state lawmaker says the state's reporting on the program falls short. Rep. Greg VanWoerkom, a Norton Shores Republican who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Medicaid and Behavioral Health, called the gap in public reporting a "transparency issue."
Michigan received about $173 million in first-year funding through the federal Rural Health Transformation Program, according to a CMS announcement of state awards. State officials told lawmakers that $124.6 million has been allocated and approved by federal regulators for 236 recipients, Bridge Michigan reported.
