Michael Stewart has slammed David Munro for his decision to award Ross County a penalty against Celtic, saying it's one of the worst decisions he's ever seen.
The Staggies took a shock lead after David Cancola sent Joe Hart the wrong way from 12 yards five minutes after half-time. The spot-kick was awarded when the ball hit Matt O'Riley 's elbow from close range. Munro pointed to the spot and despite a VAR check, the decisions stood and Ange Postecoglou's side found themselves 1-0 down.
The champions showed why they are nine points clear at the top of the league however, and roared back to claim all three points. David Turnbull drew Celtic level two minutes after the hour before Sead Haksabanovic completed the turnaround, making it three goals in his last two games following his double against Dundee United seven days ago - a game which wasn't without controversy either.
Alexandro Bernabei had a penalty awarded against him for handball. The Argentine had little clue what had happened, seeing as he wasn't even facing the ball when Steven Fletcher's header struck his arm. Despite no protests, VAR flagged the incident and penalty was given.
Stewart was left astonished that yet another nothing handball call resulted in a penalty as he slaughtered the decision against O'Riley. “Horrific," he said on BBC Scotland. "Horrific. That could be the worst.
“For the referee to give it in the first place is an absolute disgrace. And to go to VAR and say ‘yeah, that was the right call’? Honestly.
“I can be surprised he’s gone to VAR and awarded it because it’s that ridiculous of a decision. I can't believe VAR looked at it and went ‘aw aye, yeah.’
“We must be playing a different sport here. He’s a foot away from the ball, it ricochets up and hits his elbow, which is at his side! It is ludicrous.
“Those two incidents at Celtic Park in the short space of a couple of weeks are two of the worst decisions you will ever see. And by the way, there are loads of other decisions that were barely picked up. At Tynecastle, Devlin got wiped out in the first half which could have been penalty."
