Michael Stewart has reignited the fuse beneath his bitter rivalry with former Hearts manager Craig Levein.
The pair have never been shy in hiding the fact they don't see eye-to-eye and have regularly taken digs at each other in the media, with former Tynecastle midfielder Stewart particularly critical of the former Scotland boss' most recent tenure as manager and director of football in Gorgie. He appeared on Hibs vs Kilmarnock commentary on Open all Mics on Saturday, when the possibility Gordon Strachan taking Aberdeen's managerial vacancy was brought up.
Tom English pointed out during it the former Celtic boss hadn't been in management for six years, which Stewart had no issues with. Pittodrie icon Willie Miller then put Levein's name into the fold and the outspoken pundit did have a problem with that: "I have always been upfront and honest and I think my criticisms of Craig Levein have borne fruit and have been correct.
“He is not a good manager and if you want to talk about being out the game – he has been out the game for a couple of years now. And no wonder he’s not lined up for another job because he did a horrific job at Hearts.”
English wasn't prepared to let him away with that comment, telling Stewart to 'give it a rest with Craig Levein.' That was responded to with: "What are you talking about?
"His name was brought up. I’m saying it is not comparable to put his name in the same bracket as Gordon Strachan.”
Shortly after, Stewart continued: "That is embarrassing, by the way. That is embarrassing, some of the comments that are coming out there.
“Any time I try to pass comment on it, someone tries to belittle it. And what I’ll say is my criticism of him has borne fruit and turned out to be correct.
“He did a horrendous job at Hearts when he was director of football and manager. He basically sent the club down. He had horrific signings at the club, 96 players, 96!”
