Michael Madsen has broken his silence on his son's tragic suicide to share the poignant final text he received from him.
The Reservoir Dogs star, 64, has spoken of his shock after his son Hudson took his own life at the age of 26.
Michael had spoken to his son just a few days before his sudden death and the actor says he did not see any signs that his offspring was struggling with depression.
In a heartbreaking update, Michael shared that the final text his son sent him read "I love you dad".
The actor told the Los Angeles Times : "I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was ‘I love you dad'.
"It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.
"He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family. He was looking towards his future, so it’s mind-blowing. I just can’t grasp what happened."
News of Hudson's death emerged on Monday, with authorities confirming he died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A spokesperson for the Department of the Medical Examiner in Honolulu, Hawaii, said at the time: "I can confirm Hudson Lee Madsen, 26, died by a gunshot wound to the head in a suspected suicide on the island of Oahu."
The family said in a statement the following day: "We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson.
"His memory and light will be remembered by all who knew and loved him."
Hudson was godson of his dad's close friend, director Quentin Tarantino.
He was living in Wahiawa, Hawaii with his wife, Carlie.
Michael said his son had just completed his first tour in the Army and had spent time in Afghanistan.
The actor is also dad to sons Kalvin, 25, and Luke, 16, who he shares with his wife DeAnna Madsen.
He also share sons Christian, 31, and Max, 27, with ex-wife Jeannine Bisignano.
