Michael Jordan Donates $10 Million to Make-A-Wish for Birthday

Michael Jordan is one of the most successful figures in sports history and to celebrate his 60th birthday, he’s spreading the wealth by donating $10 million to Make-A-Wish. His donation is the largest ever received from an individual in the organization’s history.

“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” Jordan said in a news release, per the Associated Press. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration.”

Jordan first supported Make-A-Wish in 1989 during the early days of his Hall of Fame career which includes six NBA titles, six Finals MVPs and five MVP awards. He has granted hundreds of wishes to children all over the world and is one of the most requested celebrity wish-granters to this day. He was named Make-A-Wish’s Chief Wish Ambassador in 2008 for what the organization called the “life-changing impacts he has had on wish kids and their families.”

“I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true,” Jordan said, per the AP.

Jordan, who owns the Hornets, turns 60 on Friday.
