Michael Jai White has landed the lead role in the upcoming action thriller, tentatively titled Hostile Takeover, as filming commences at a facility in Saskatchewan operated by the Los Angeles-based pop-up virtual production company, Volume Global. Renowned action stunt director Markos Rounthwaite, known for his work on films like The Bourne Ultimatum and Casino Royale, is at the helm of this independent project.
In Hostile Takeover, White portrays Pete, a dedicated hitman based in New York City who finds himself targeted by a group of assassins. The conflict arises when the leader of a local crime syndicate suspects Pete of disloyalty due to his participation in Workaholics Anonymous meetings. Aimee Stolte joins the cast as Mora, Pete's on-again/off-again girlfriend, with further casting details yet to be revealed.
Michael Jai White, recognized for his roles in Black Dynamite and The Dark Knight, brings his talent to this new venture. Hostile Takeover is a joint production by Dovetale Media and Karma Films, with Rounthwaite serving as an executive producer.
The film is currently being shot on a virtual production stage recently established by Volume Global at the John Hopkins Soundstage in Regina, Saskatchewan. Volume Global specializes in portable pop-up soundstages and LED volumes and is nearing completion of a similar facility in Sudbury, Ontario, set to open later this year.
Volume Global, in collaboration with Dovetale Media, Karma Film, and Fun Republic Pictures, has a lineup of feature films and TV series slated to be filmed at their virtual production studios in Saskatchewan and Ontario. This initiative comes as Hollywood productions increasingly shift northward following recent actors and writers strikes.
