MICHAEL Gove has reportedly called on Boris Johnson to step down.
The Levelling Up Secretary, who is seen as a key ally of the Prime Minister, is reported to have told the Prime Minister he must go during a meeting on Wednesday morning.
The Daily Mail reports Gove, who blew up Johnson’s leadership aspirations in 2016 when he ran against Theresa May, made the warning at a meeting the pair had this morning.
There has been growing speculation Gove could again be plotting against the Prime Minister.
He made no comment on the two major shock resignations on Wednesday night when Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid stepped down.
And he was absent from the front bench for Prime Minister’s Questions this afternoon – adding to rumours he could have turned against Johnson.
A spokesman for Gove did not deny he made the comments, reports the Daily Mail.
