Michael Fassbender 'okay' after terrifying crash during Le Mans qualifying

Hollywood star Michael Fassbender was 'okay' after a terrifying car crash during qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Kerry man's car spun out of control and crashed into a wall approaching one of the chicanes on the Mulsanne Straight while on a hot lap in his Proton Competition Porsche 911RSR.

Thankfully, the X-Man actor's condition was described as "okay" following the incident, and it is hoped that the car can be repaired to take part in the race.

Porsche Motorsport said on Twitter: "Hollywood star @Fassbender_Way lost the rear of his No. 93 ProtonRacing Porsche 911RSR under breaking and hit the barrier. Driver is okay, car damaged on the front."

The avid racer recorded a fastest lap time of 4:05.296 ahead of Saturday's main race.

Fassbender had spoken of his dream to compete in motorsports one day especially in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

He had previously said: "I've just always felt drawn to going fast into a corner—and fast out—and just naturally felt connected to it. And now I want to go to the ultimate place. I think it's the history of the place.

"I think it's the drivers that crashed there, or competed there, or won there. To be a part of that would be, you know, unbelievable."
