Michael Edwards next club claims emerge as former Liverpool sporting director in demand

Manchester United are reportedly admirers of former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards - but are not seen to be close to 'locking him in' for next season.

The transfer whizz helped secure deals for the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker, but left his role at Anfield in the summer after wanting a 'break from football'.

Now there are suggestions that a switch to Liverpool 's rivals United could be his next move. However, there is no indication anything is imminently on the cards.

Chelsea made an approach for Edwards in the summer with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also rumoured to hold an interest in the ex-Liverpool man. United are now the latest club to apparently be on the scene.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport : "So, Manchester United like Edwards, I believe from talking to sources that that is the case, but they're not close to locking him in for next summer.

“And any offer that is lucrative is not going to be the deal-breaker because virtually everyone chasing after Edwards is going to provide him with incredible compensation due to his reputation. Edwards is not close to joining them at this stage, regardless of any offers that may have been made.”

However, Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy claimed that the Edwards links to United are 'fiction' in their current form. In a recent article, she wrote: "Sky Sports News has been told suggestions he is close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United are fiction."
